The Associated Press Parade of Stupidity, chapter 16,212

Witness Mark Lavie's blurb on the first Arab President... of Israel:

...Arabs, who make up about 20 percent of Israel's population of 7 million, have suffered from decades of discrimination at the hands of successive governments, landing them in the top percentiles of unemployment and bottom rankings in income and education...

As opposed to the treatment of Jews in Arab countries, where they were expelled or killed decades ago. That's why there aren't significant numbers of Jews living in any Arab country. In all, millions of Jews were forcibly expelled (if they were not executed) from Arab countries.

These explusions followed harassment, persecution, confiscation of property, and true discrimination (i.e., dhimmi status for both Christians and Jews). Many of these families had lived within Arab lands for centuries before the advent and spread of Islam in the seventh century.

[The] British Vice Consul in Mosul, wrote in 1909:

The attitude of the Muslims toward the Christians and the Jews is that of a master towards slaves, whom he treats with a certain lordly tolerance so long as they keep their place. Any sign of pretension to equality is promptly repressed.

More than a thousand Jews were killed in anti-Jewish rioting during the 1940's in Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Syria and Yemen. This helped trigger the mass exodus of Jews from Arab countries.

Consider the irony. Israel has an Arab President - and the best the AP can come up with is to retail Jimmy Carter's apartheid meme. Just like death and taxes, you can always count on the Associated Press to put their own "special" spin on a story.
