The Dixie Chicks Archipelago

It's an awful tale of censorship. You probably haven't heard, but the Dixie Chicks have a new movie out. For the most part, word of the movie has been suppressed, but a few key details have managed to leak out:

The Chicks barely snuck their movie, Shut up and Sing, into theaters yesterday.

With its anti-GOP message and timing, it has received scant attention from the mainstream media.

Because they were blacklisted, the Chicks secretly appeared on MSNBC (Chris Matthews' Hardball), ABC's Nightline, CNN (Larry King Live), and Oprah.

Oh, and I forgot their new CD was recently released with zero fanfare...

...along with a set of new posters, framed CDs and other memorabilia, which are extremely difficult to locate in stores or online.

Oddly, sales of their last concert DVD have picked up.

Despite this obvious suppression, some attention has been gained because of controversial* refusals to air commercials for the movie.
* Controversies may be smaller than they actually appear

Yes, you'd be hard-pressed to figure out that the Dixie Chicks have a new movie out.

This is truly an appalling and tragic story of censorship.

It reminds me of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn having to smuggle The Gulag Archipelago out of the Soviet Union after serving ten years in a concentration camp.
