Mexican Military Crosses into US Side of Bridge
The Progreso International Bridge was closed down for a short time following an incident with the Mexican military. The Mexican military were allegedly chasing a speeding driver of Dodge Nitro truck. The driver crossed from the U.S. into Mexico. At the Mexican checkpoint, the driver turned around and fled back to the U.S. The Mexican military followed and crossed the international boundary on the bridge... As a result, the Progreso International Bridge was temporarily shut down on both sides.
Border Patrol Agents Receive Fire from Mexico
Gunmen from Mexico open fire on border patrol agents in the Valley... It happened this afternoon in in the town of Fronton, near Roma. Officials say men armed with guns across the border in Mexico fired several shots at officers who were in patrolling in the Valley. Authorities say no one was injured...

A coalition of mayors from Mexico is blaming the U.S. for the exploding violence on the border, arguing (with a straight face) that if we would just stop deporting dangerous felons back to border cities in Mexico, much of the violence would go away...
Brownsville PD: Targets specific in spillover violence
Brownsville residents have "nothing to fear" from the spillover of drug war violence from Mexico, authorities said... "The people that go about their business and lead a regular life really have nothing to fear from this," Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia said. "If you are not involved in illegal trade or organized crime, this won’t affect you..."

White House continues push for immigration reform
A White House official on Tuesday continued the administration's push for comprehensive immigration reform, indicating that a debate over the emotional issue may be underway sooner rather than later... Speaking at a think tank event in Washington, White House Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy Melody Barnes noted that Bob Menendez, a Democratic senator from New Jersey, said he planned to introduce a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the near future...
